Day 1 Chiang Mai
After arrival in Chiang Mai pick up by our guide and transfer to the hotel for check in.
The rest of the day is at your leisure to explore the scenic city with its many Buddhist temple complexes and colorful bazaars.
Day 2 Chiang Mai (B/L)
After breakfast in the hotel visit the old part of the city and its ancient temple complex. Afterwards, drive to Doi Suthep Mountain and enjoy the panoramic view from this sacred place overlooking Chiang Mai and the surrounding province. Continue to the banks of Ping River and visit the former Mon city of Wiang Kum Kam. Lunch at a small restaurant. After lunch drive to the village of Bo Sang in the outskirts of Chiang Mai. The village is famous for its handmade umbrellas and brightly colored parasols. Time to see certain local handicraft factories and decorated craft shops. In the afternoon return to Chiang Mai for overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3 Chiang Mai – Thaton (B/L)
After breakfast drive to a nearby elephant camp north of the city. On the way visit an orchid farm and a local market. After arrival at the camp see Asian elephants taking a bath and hauling wood. Enjoy trekking on the back on an elephant through the surrounding green tropical jungle. Afterwards, boat trip on a bamboo raft along the nearby river. Later on visit one of the region’s rare Palong hill tribe communities. Lunch at a local restaurant. Continue northwards and visit a traditional rice mill. Finally reach the village of Tha Ton in the far north of Chiang Mai province. Check in at the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 4 Thaton – Chiang Rai (B/L)
After an early breakfast in the hotel drive to Wat Tha Ton and its huge Buddha images. Enjoy the panoramic view over the Burmese mountain ranges and the Valley of Kok River. Continue to a famous local weaving village. Afterwards, boat trip along the Kok River towards Chiang Rai. On the way pass local hill tribe villages, bathing elephants and dense jungles. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit the Lahu hill tribe village upon the banks of the river and the region’s many hot springs. Finally arrive at Chiang Rai in Thailand’s northernmost province. After check in at the hotel time to discover the city with its colorful night bazaars and food markets.
Day 5 Chiang Rai – Golden Triangle – Chiang Rai (B/L)
After breakfast continue northwards to the former Royal City of Chiang Saen. The province surrounding the confluence of the Mekong River with the Ruak River is called the Golden Triangle. Boat trip along the mighty Mekong. On the way along the river stop over at the Laotian river island Don Sao. Lunch at a small local restaurant. Finally reach the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Visit the opium museum and continue to the border town of Mae Sai. (Optional: visit the Burmese border town Tachilek). Continue to the top of Doi Tung Mountain. Doi Tung is a revered mountain around 2,000 meters above sea level and includes the Doi Tung Palace and one of the Kingdom’s most beautiful botanical gardens. Afterwards visit a local hill tribe village before return to the hotel in Chiang Rai.
Day 6 Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai (B/L)
In the morning visit the impressive Wat Rong Khun temple complex. The style of the Buddhist and Hindu temple is different from any other holy places that can be found in Thailand. Its sacred assembly hall was designed in white color with some decoration of white glass and paintings in golden tones. Afterwards, walk along a pathway to the nearby 70 meter tall Khun Korn Waterfall passing giant bamboo trees and colorful tropical plants (Optional). Return to the waiting car and drive towards Chiang Mai. After lunch at a local restaurant visit local hot springs and a traditional market. In the afternoon arrive in Chiang Mai and check in at the hotel. Time at your leisure to visit the traditional markets and local craft shops. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 7 Chiang Mai (B)
After breakfast in the hotel, optional drop of at Chiang Mai train station or Chiang Mai airport.
