Extraordinary roundtrip to Thailand’s Northern districts with overnight stay on the banks of the River Kwai. The tour leads to the fascinating evergreen landscapes of Kanchanaburi and continues to Ayutthaya and its ancient temple complexes. Visit the unseen province of Uthai Thani with its unchanging countryside and hidden valleys. Stopover at the Kingdom’s largest lake. Continue northwards along scenic back roads passing hill tribe villages and sheltered mountain ranges covered with dense jungles. Finally reach the mighty Mekong River which leads into the Golden Triangle and the border region of Laos und Myanmar. The roundtrip ends in Thailand’s northern capital city Chiang Mai. Ideal tour for travelers who whish discover the country’s characteristic nature and culture beside the main tourists attractions.
   
 
Day 1 Bangkok – Kanchanaburi (L/D)
In the early morning pick up at the hotel in Bangkok and drive westwards along the gulf coast. Stop at the salt fields in Samut Sakhon Province. Afterwards visit the floating markets. Explore the colorful market and see the traditional way of trading wares along a labyrinth of narrow water canals. Lunch at a local restaurant. Visit Erawan National Park and the impressive seven tier high waterfall. Explore the waterfall’s many levels and limestone rocks or swim in the natural pools filled with crystal clear waters. Afterwards, drive to the Hellfire Pass. The pass and its railway were built by allied prisoners and Asian workers during the Second World War and used as a supply route between Thailand and the Japanese front in Burma. The Hellfire Memorial Museum provides detailed information and is starting point to explore the cutting places of the pass. Continue the tour by long tail boat along the Kwai River to the hotel. Overnight at a floating hotel surrounded by dense jungles. After arrival time at your leisure to enjoy the surrounding nature and explore a local Mon Village next to the floating lodges. Swimming and canoeing (optional). After Dinner watch the traditional Mon dances.

Note: the River Kwai Jungle Raft Resort offers private rooms with private bathrooms in an extraordinary setting but no Air-condition. Optional overnight stay at River Kwai Resotel*** with air conditioned rooms and pool possible at no surcharge.

Day 2 Kanchanaburi – Ayutthaya – Uthai Thani (B/L)

After breakfast return by boat downstream to the waiting car. Drive along local back roads towards the ancient capital Ayutthaya. After arrival visit Wat Phanang Choen with its huge seated Buddha and the large Chedi of Wat Yai Chai-Mongkol. Enjoy lunch on board of a rice barge overlooking the scenic river. Drive to Singburi. Visit a local temple whose surrounding trees are home to a large population of giant bats. Continue to Uthai Thani province. Visit the old city center and local market along the Skae Krang River. Cruise along the river in an old rice barge. Discover the river and the traditional way of life which seems almost unchanged throughout the centuries. Locals still live on small bamboo rafts with floating gardens and fish farms. Drive to the resort situated on a manmade island between the Skae Krang and Chao Phraya rivers. Check in and Dinner overlooking the river.

Day 3 Uthai Thani – Sukhothai - Lampang (B/L)

After breakfast drive to Thailand’s first capital city Sukhothai. Visit Sukhothai Historical Park with its impressive temple complexes, palace buildings and ancient Buddha sculptures. Explore the temple complex by bicycle (Optional). Continue to Wat Mahatat with its golden Buddha Phra Chinarat. Later visit a local Buddha statue manufactory. Drive to Si Satchanalai in the northernmost district of Sukhothai. Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the river. In the afternoon reach Lampang. The city is situated in the Valley of the Wang River. The horse drawn carriage is one of the most memorable symbols of Lampang and reflected in many traditional products. Enjoy a horse drawn carriage tour through the old town. Afterwards, check in at the hotel for overnight stay.

Day 4 Lampang – Chiang Rai (B/L)

After breakfast visit the temple Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tan. Leave Lampang and drive towards the province town Phayao. The town in surrounded by Thailand’s largest lake. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the scenic Phayao Lake which is home to a variety of colorful water hyacinths. Continue to the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Boat trip along the mighty Mekong River. On the way stop over at a small Laotian village. Lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the impressive sandbanks of the Mekong River. Visit a local opium museum and continue to the border town Mae Sai where Thai, Burmese and local hill tribe people are trading their wares. In the afternoon drive to Chiang Rai for overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5 Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai (B/L/D)

After breakfast continue through the region’s remote jungle covered mountains and timeless landscapes. Boat trip along the Mae Kok River towards Thaton. After arrival visit local Buddha Statues from where you can enjoy a panoramic view overlooking the river and the surrounding mountain ranges. Drive along local country roads passing rice fields, colorful fruit plantations and hill tribe villages which are home to Akha and Yao people. After lunch arrive in Chiang Dao. Visit the region’s largest cave which contains a shrine and huge stalagmite formations. Continue to Thailand’s second largest city. On the way visit the 1.000 meter high Doi Suthep Mountain and enjoy the panoramic view from this sacred place overlooking Chiang Mai and the nearby province. Afterwards, drive to the hotel for check in. In the evening enjoy a characteristic Kantoke Dinner and see traditional northern folk dances. After dinner visit the country’s major night market (Optional). Overnight stay at the hotel in Chiang Mai.

Day 6 Chiang Mai (B/L)

In the morning visit the Maesa Elephant camp. Chance to see Asian elephants taking a bath in the river and hauling wood. Enjoy trekking on back of an elephant through the lush tropical jungles of Maesa Valley. Continue to one of Chiang Mai’s many orchid farms. After lunch at the farm time to explore the impressive mountain landscape before return to the city.

Optional drop of at Chiang Mai train station or Chiang Mai airport.
